Subaru Outback Wilderness vs. Subaru Forester Wilderness: Which One is Right for You?

Going off-road isn't something every SUV can do. Some lineups offer ample cargo space and convenience, but when it comes to getting a little mud sprayed up the side, they start to lose their capability and performance. With the Subaru Wilderness Editions, you won't have to worry about getting stuck in the mud. However, choosing the right Wilderness model can come down to your personal preference. The Outback and Forester both offer a version of the Wilderness Edition, making it challenging to choose the one that's right for you.

Here at Ciocca Subaru, we're happy to show you how each model can benefit your drive and put you in the driver's seat of the perfect fit. Check out the comparisons below and see how you can upgrade your off-road adventures!

Outback Wilderness vs. Forester Wilderness: Performance

Engine capability provides a different experience when you get behind the wheel of either SUV. The Outback model comes with a 2.4-liter turbocharged BOXER® engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Should you prefer the Forester's style, its Wilderness Edition is standard with a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated BOXER® engine that produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. If you want a bit more power, the Outback Wilderness will be the right choice for you.

Outback Wilderness vs. Forester Wilderness: Towing Capability

Both models receive a boost to their towing capability with the addition of the Wilderness models. Attaching a trailer gets easier with the Outback Wilderness Edition, which enjoys a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, up from 2,700 pounds on the base model. For a more significant jump, the Forester Wilderness can tow up to 3,000 pounds, twice what its base model can tow! The Forester Wilderness also equips trailer stability assist for better control of your trailer on the road.

Outback Wilderness vs. Forester Wilderness: Design

Thanks to improved ground clearance, the Outback Wilderness and Forester Wilderness enjoy more confidence when undertaking bumpy roads and obstacles in the way. The Outback features a ground clearance of 9.5 inches, while the Forester model offers up to 9.2-inches of ground clearance. The Outback model does offer better ground clearance, but the Forester vehicle is taller and has a shorter wheelbase, allowing for more room inside the cabin. Both models also feature the Advanced Dual-Function X-MODE® setup, which handles deep snow, mud, and more with better traction control.

Outback Wilderness vs. Forester Wilderness: Interior

You aren't just getting an off-road performer with the Outback and Forester SUVs. You'll also find that both models come with cozy, spacious interiors that handle the elements easily, even if a little water gets inside the cabin. The Outback Wilderness features StarTex® water-repellant upholstery, same as the Forester Wilderness. The Forester SUV also accentuates its interior with copper accent stitching for a unique look. Their cargo areas come with LED cargo lamps and ample storage space to help you include everything on your next adventure.

Outback Wilderness vs. Forester Wilderness: Technology

How about some convenience for your drive? The Outback Wilderness Edition comes standard with the STARLINK® Multimedia system, complete with an 11.6-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. In the Forester Wilderness Edition, you'll find the STARLINK® Multimedia 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus with the same integration features. The Forester SUV also offers a standard 180-Degree Front-View Monitor that provides a clear view of obstacles in front of your vehicle.

Outback Wilderness vs. Forester Wilderness: Safety
